Turkey's Arcelik to set up fridge factory in Thailand
On 6 January 2015, Turkey’s largest household appliances manufacturer, Arcelik, held the groundbreaking ceremony to build its refrigerator production plant in Thailand, aimed at tapping the white goods market in Thailand and the South East Asia region.
The plant is located on a 263,000 sqm plot at the Hemaraj Rayong Industrial Land which will be built with an investment of US$100 million. Once completed, it aims to produce more than 800,000 units of refrigerators, and within three years, expects to generate sales of around US$500 million in the region from countries such as Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam and Australia. The plant will be fully operational by the end of 2015.
Mr. Mustafa V. Koc, Chairman of Koc Holding, further stated that their new plant in Thailand has great potential to become a production hub in the region for their appliances, especially their European’s bestselling sister appliance brand “Beko”. Arcelik is under the Koç Holding, Turkey’s largest industrial and services group.
The Royal Thai Embassy has played a pivotal role in pushing forward the realization of Arcelik‘s investment in Thailand. Apart from reassuring to the Turkish company of Thailand’s potential as the manufacturing and logistical hub for the region of South East Asia, the Embassy also facilitated the Koc Holding and Arcelik for important meetings with Thailand’s relevant authorities, such as the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) and the Ministry of Industry of Thailand.
