On 20 January 2014, His Excellency Mr. Tharit Charungvat, Ambassador of Thailand to the Republic of Turkey attended the handover of  6 ancient handwritten Korans restored by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Turkey at Sulemaniye library. The 6 ancient handwritten Korans from Narathiwat province in Thailand, which are said to have dated back to the 17th - 18th century, were brought over for restoration at Sulemaniye library through the joint collaboration of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Turkey and the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC).

The ceremony was attended by a high level delegation from Thailand led by  Mr. Narong Sasithorn, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Moraning Salaming, Deputy Secretary General of SBPAC which included  officials from the SBPAC, the Department of Fine Arts as well as a media crew.

 During the ceremony, both Ambassador Charungvat and Deputy Permanent Secretary Sasithorn expressed their appreciation on behalf of the Thai Government and Thai Muslims to the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Turkey and Sulemaniye library for their efforts in restoring the said 6 ancient handwritten Korans. Both Ambassador Charungvat and Deputy Permanent Secretary Sasithorn shared the view that this cultural project has served to further the bond together and strengthen the already close and cordial bilateral relations between the peoples of the two countries.

Deputy Permanent Secretary Sasithorn also shared views with Mr. Muhittin Macit, President of Sulemaniye Handwritten Manuscript Centre over the possibility for future cultural cooperation between Thailand's Department of Fine Arts and Sulemaniye library.
