On 13 August 2012, Mr Sahip İhsan Tansuk, or known by the Thais in Turkey as Than Tansuk, Former Honorary Consul General of Thailand in Istanbul passed away peacefully at the age of 96. On the same day, H.E. Mr. Rathakit Manathat, Ambassador of Thailand wrote a letter of condolences to Mr Refik Gökçek, incumbent Honorary Consul General of Thailand in Istanbul, on Than Tansuk's departure as follows:

Dear Mr Refik Gokcek,
Honourary Consul General of the Kingdom of Thailand in Istanbul,
I have just learned with deepest sorrow of the passing away of Than Tansuk, our former Honorary Consul General of Thailand in Istanbul.
"Than Tansuk" as he was known in the Thai community in Turkey was well loved and highly respected by the Thais living in the Republic of Turkey during his term of service as our Honourary Consul General and well beyond that until the last day of his life.
His service to Thailand and Thai people are very well recognized and highly commendable. On behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand and all Thais residing in the Republic of Turkey, I would like to convey our deepest condolences to his loved ones.
