On 23 January 2014, His Excellency Mr. Tharit Charungvat, Ambassador of Thailand to the Republic of Turkey paid a courtesy call to Mr. Cemil Çiçek, Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly at the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

        During the meeting, Mr. Çiçek congratulated Ambassador Charungvat on his appointment as Thai Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey and expressed his confidence that bilateral ties between the two countries will continue to flourish under Ambassador Charungvat's tenure. Ambassador Charungvat reiterated his intentions to further enhance bilateral ties in all areas of interest, particularly economic ties, to rectify the current imbalanced trade balance between Thailand and Turkey.  

        Ambassador Charungvat  took the opportunity to debrief Mr. Çiçek  on the political situation in Thailand and expressed his desire to see closer relations between the parliamentarian side between the two countries, through more frequent exchange of visits by each sides Parliamentarian Friendship Group. Mr. Çiçek  supported the idea  and the endeavor to see a parliamentarian delegation to Thailand in 2014.
