On 13 February 2013, during the 2^nd Annual Thai Students in Turkey Meeting,
The Royal Thai Embassy to Turkey officially opened a “Mescid” or a Prayer Room in the Embassy. The occasion was honoured by Imam Ahmet Karalı of Hacı Bayram Mosque, who graciously led the first religious service of the Mescid, attended by all Thai Muslim Students. Mr. Erdal Atalay, Head of Mulim Countries and Communites Division, the Presidency of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Turkey (DİYANET), Secretary General of the Association of Social and Economic Solidarity with the Pacific Countries (PASİAD) as well as H.E. Mr. Rathakit Manathat, Ambassador of Thailand to Turkey, also participated in the Prayer .

The initiative to have a mescid in the Embassy’s premises derived from the Embassy’s wish to provide a place of worship for Thai Muslim nationals and students residing or studying in Turkey during their visit to the Embassy which is in conformity with the Royal Thai Government’s policy of religious freedom, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, on which Turkey has also attached high value. 

The Mescid is located on the ground floor of the Embassy with separate ablution rooms for male and female. Qur’an and other Islamic books both in Turkish and English language was donated by DİYANET for Muslims and non-Muslims, interested in Islam, to learn and appreciate the teaching of Islam.
