On 1 December 2012, Mrs. Thanaporn Manathat, spouse of the Thai Ambassador to Turkey, accompanied by Miss Chawanis Chawanawong, First Secretary, and some staff of the Royal Thai Embassy, attended the DMEDD (the Spouse’s Solidarity Association of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) Annual Charity Bazaar at Cer Modern Art Center. The purpose of the Bazaar, organized by DMEDD with the cooperation of Turkish missions abroad as well as foreign missions in Ankara, was to raise fund to be used as scholarships for 164 Turkish students for 2013 education year as well as to assist other educational projects in the disadvantaged regions of Turkey.
Thailand booth beautifully decorated with Thai handicraft and art and its goods attracted great interest from the Bazaar’s visitors. Dr. Sare Davutoğlu, the honorary chairperson of DMEDD, also paid a visit to the Thai booth where she was welcomed by Mrs. Manathat who presented some Thai souvenir handicraft to her as a symbol of support of the Royal Thai Embassy to DMEDD. At the conclusion of the fair, Mrs. Manathat, on behalf of the Royal Thai Embassy, donated all proceeds of the Thai booth amounted to 2,160 TL to DMEDD for its charitable purpose.
DMEDD was established on September 24, 1981 with the purpose of assisting and supporting the families of Turkish diplomats and officials from other Ministries who have been assassinated on active duty abroad and also organizing various kinds of activities for public benefit in both Turkey and abroad. Presently DMEDD has Dr. Sare Davutoğlu, spouse of the Turkish Foreign Minister, as its honorary chairperson.
